James was born in Miami, FL, and later moved to Atlanta, GA, in 1972. He graduated from Georgia State University in 1992 with a B.S. in criminal justice. James then served as a Police Officer in Gwinnett County until 1995. At that time, James transitioned into the Wine & Spirits industry, working at the Wine Shop Parkaire. James joined Empire Distributors in 1997 working in the Atlanta Retail Wine division. In 2000, he was promoted to District Manager and then in 2008 he was promoted to the General Manager position at Empire’s Augusta facility. James enjoys gardening and spending time outside hiking and kayaking with his son, Julian.
